My name is Ben and I am a disabled, trans eighteen year old living on my own. At seventeen I was kicked out due to a fight with my aunt whom I had lived with since 10. She was and continues to be severely manipulative and mentally ill. Our encounters traumatized me up until I was forced out. My aunt handed me all of my legal documents and social security checks and told me to find somewhere else. I had no idea how to live independently and I am still learning. I eventually wound up staying with my great grandmother who was very controlling and overbearing. After realizing I couldn’t handle living on her couch anymore, I ended up moving in with another aunt who demands rent, which is more than half of my SSI check. Rent does not include food or anything necessary for functional living. My “family” that I live with does not care about me and would rather take advantage of me instead, regularly asking me for money, stealing my medication and verbally abusing. I only receive about 200 dollars every month to pay for food, hygiene products, prescriptions, an overdue phone bill which my aunt refuses to pay, and transportation since I will never be able to drive. It is impossible for me to work right now while trying to balance my disability, high school and dealing with my family so I am raising money the only way I know how, by reaching out to you. With this money I hope to move into independent living where I can resolve most of these problems, finish high school, move onto college and start a new part of my life.
